The categories are arbitrary, my opinion of my own work.

Rough:  The story is beginning to take shape, but only to me.

OK:  The story is mostly on the page but still needs something.

Good. Or good-enough-for-now: I’ve done what I can to make the story readable (and I can’t look at it anymore).

Ready: In my opinion, this story is readable and I’m preparing to send it off for feedback.

Then the process starts again.

Outline is approved, characters are developing. Plot is brewing & slowly steeping for deeper flavor.
